Overview

Created by Squamish-based filmmakers, Amanda Palmer and Lauren Bridle, in collaboration with Krista Rand of Yellow Heart Pictures, Nature Entwined premiered at the 2020 Whistler Film Festival The short film is a selection in theWFF Sea to Sky Shorts Showcase, a new regional filmmaking competition that is about discovering great stories that connect people in the community, while highlighting talented filmmakers from the Sea to Sky region. 

The short explores the inherent connection that women have with nature, highlighting the particular importance of women in Squamish and the ways in which they connect to the land. Over six weeks, Coldwater Communications executed a BC-based campaign to shine the spotlight on the filmmakers and connect the short with an audience who resonate with its themes.

In November 2020, Coldwater Communications launched a BC-based media campaign that was executed over six weeks to promote the short film. Additionally, customized media pitches were sent to targeted print, digital, radio and television media contacts that cover the arts, film and entertainment industry in BC. 

The Work

  • Launched a BC-based targeted media outreach campaign to obtain earned media coverage across the province
  • Curated a list of over 50  reporters and 30 outlets in BC that cover the arts and entertainment industry
  • Pitched print, digital, radio and television contacts to reach a diverse audience across BC
  • Coordinated interview requests and Q & A sessions between reporters and Amanda Palmer, director and producer of Nature Entwined and Krista Rand of Yellow Heart Pics

The Results

  • This media outreach campaign generated awareness of the short film before the premiere at Whistler Film Festival
  • Secured five pieces of print, broadcast and online coverage in outlets across BC
  • Outlets that covered the story include: Squamish Chief, Mountain FM, Hollywood North Magazine, MKP Celebrity Talk, Burnaby Connect and Stir Magazine
