2020 was expected to be a year of immense personal and professional growth. In 2019, I built a team of consultants who believed in my business and where I want to take it; they believed in the value of their work; and they believed in me and the potential that we have to grow together. We were off to such a great start landing bigger clients, more complex projects and finally had the bandwidth—and budget—to focus on business development. We were going a mile a minute and loving it.
Then COVID19 happened and our work suddenly and abruptly stopped. The film industry shut down, all events we were promoting got cancelled, and the luxury brands we were working with stopped selling their products. I suddenly went from being immensely productive over the course of a single workday, to being a stay-at-home mom barely finding the time to respond to emails. Three weeks passed in which I spent any free time worrying about my team and their personal finances and exploring government relief for small businesses. With each week that passed, I hoped that this pandemic would be short-lived and that we could get back to work quickly and simply pick up where we left off.
A few days ago, the team reconvened via video conference to collectively agree that we are done waiting. We’re done waiting for COVID19 to be over and for life to go back to “normal”. This is the time in which we (and all businesses) are being challenged to adapt to the current situation, to stay relevant, and to help each other. Now it the time to continue building something we believe in and to better ourselves and our community in the process. Now is the time for action, all the while understanding that “action” may look different than what we had originally envisioned.
So if you know of a business looking for communications or public relations support during this challenging time, please let me know. If you’re a member of the media looking for good news stories, we’ll help you find them. And if you’re a member of the film industry wondering how you can continue developing your projects or your brand during this time, please reach out to us. We’re in this together.
2020 was expected to be a year of immense personal and professional growth. And it still will be—for all of us.
